Food for Thought

So what's everyone's reaction to the news last night. In my opinion the cost to repair the windows was a surprise. I was expecting a more costly estimate and the roof estimate was reasonable as well. A few thoughts came to mind since the meeting. What would the monthly cost be for a 5 yr/10yr vs 15yr loan? I would prefer a shorter loan period if the monthly cost was reasonable. If the fee becomes part of our condo fee will the fee be reduced once the loan is paid off? Who will decide if there is mold in the walls? If the contractor is the one who makes that decision you can bet he won't find any. We need someone who is not associated with the contractor to make that decision and that person will need to be on sight to inspect each unit at the time the window is out. A once a week check will not work. Let's get some discussing going. This is a big cost and project. If we don't stay on top of this we can expect something less than good results.

  1. Good points Jack.I dont understand why our window sills that were damaged by this problem are not being replaced as part of the plan. The damage was not caused by our neglect and in many cases is the only visible part of this issue that most of us have.Without our damaged sills we would not have known of the defective flashing.

  2. I agree. It would be the best time to do that work and the least expensive.

  3. I agree. I was told 3 years ago that the flashing was put in backwards on the windows. I liked the suggestion from someone last night that we connect "help me hank" from channel 7 and have her do some research and see what she finds.

  4. That sounds like a good idea. Maybe they will expose Mr. Potter if nothing else.

  6. I looked into contacting her. I just want to be sure I have my facts straight. maybe this weekend I can put together a letter for her and hope that she'll investigate. I truly am sickened at the thought of spending approx. $5000. Any ideas on what to include in the letter to Hank are appreciated.
